Waterlions Head Coach Wayne Lawes held a swim training session for the Holden Racing Team on the 4th October 2013.Â

Anthony Klarica is the facilitator of the unusual pairing of an elite Swim Coach with the elite Holden Racing Team. Anthony is the Managing Director of Elite Performance. He has spent the last 15 years working as a Psychologist and Performance Coach.

Anthony is currently a consultant to the Hawthorn Football Club, Holden Racing Team, and Tennis Australia.

“It’s great to be able to utilise the outstanding facilities at Waterlions and the experience of a Coach such as Wayne. It really compliments the pit crew and driver training program that the Holden Racing Team undergoes in preparation for racing and particularly the Bathurst 1000 race, which is the week after the session,” said Anthony. “Wayne adds a fresh approach to the training and blends work with enjoyment and team bonding nicely,” he added.

The Waterlions Swimming Club is based at the Grenda Aquatic Centre at the Haileybury College Campus, Springvale Road, Keysborough.

This is one of the main competition pools in Victoria, hosting many competitions for the club and Metro District South, and has had many international teams training there.

Head Coach Wayne Lawes started the Waterlions in 1978. Wayne holds a Gold Class Coaching qualification from Swimming Australia which is the highest level obtainable. He also is a Victorian Institute of Sport Coach.

Wayne has coached many Swimmers onto the Australian Team including Kelly Stubbins & Samantha Wilkins.

As a competitor, Wayne competed at national level in Freestyle and Breaststroke and is a former Australian Triathlon Champion and Victorian Triathlon team captain.
