The Australian Democrats will be on the Senate ticket in South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria, as they
make a return to Federal politics.
National President Elisa Resce said, “our candidates signify the beginning of the Australian Democrats’ return to
doing what they are best known for: fighting for political integrity and accountability, or in other words,
“keeping the bastards honest”.”
The campaign is all about better politics through genuine accountability, but will also focus on key issues
affecting living affordability particularly around energy and climate.
National President Elisa Resce says voters are disillusioned with the major parties, and the Australian Democrats
are a more credible alternative to the more extreme, divisive minor parties.
“Our small team of candidates are not career politicians, they are regular people from all walks of life,
committed to showing that different perspectives can work together when we focus on achieving outcomes.”
“We are a Party looking to collaborate and build community, and we mean to walk the talk,” says Ms Resce.
Deputy President and Senate candidate Pete Mailler said, “It doesn’t matter if you live in the heart of a CBD or
the back of Bourke, we are all sick of rubbish politics by party hacks who think our future is subservient to their
own aspirations for power. We need outcomes and the political games are not getting us there at all.”
The Democrats will be using the campaign to remind Australians what made the Party a major force in
Australian politics: a determination to be pragmatic, evidence-based, collaborative, and free of vested interests
so that Parliament can function the way it is supposed to – for the people.
Ms Resce says “We have seen other political agents comeback to the Parliament and it is the poorer for it. I
think people will be relieved to see the Australian Democrats are now coming back too.”
