PRESS RELEASE: Australian Country Party & Seniors United Party enter SUPA COALITION

Australian Country Party (ACP) endeavour to successfully contest the 2020 Territory elections.

NT Elections has been given a SUPA boost with the SENIORS UNITED PARTY OF AUSTRALIA (SUPA) joining forces to form a coalition. The aim is to merge with the ACP and become one political force.

The Seniors United Party of Australia – SUPA – is a federally registered political party Incorporating the Pensioner, Veterans & Seniors Party. SUPA stands for a fairer deal for Seniors, Veterans & the Disabled in Health, Care, Income and Housing.

ACP Territory Chair Eli Melky and ACP Federal Chair Glenn O’Rourke successfully negotiated the agreement to become a coalition and are excited about joining forces with SUPA.
“Glenn and I recently travelled to Sydney and made a presentation to the leadership of SUPA highlighting the benefits of joining forces.” Said Mr Melky. ACP and SUPA have a great deal in common, with shared values, including a strong social conscience and environmental responsibility and both want to see a dynamic economy for the Territory and indeed Australia.

SUPA Party leader Mr Chris Osborne said, “I am looking forward to working together with Eli Melky and the ACP leadership team of Marli Banks, Catherine Satour, Peter Chandler and Ian Britza”.

Mr Osborne said, “SUPA together with ACP will initially form a coalition with a focus to grow the coalition by encouraging other political groups to join with us. Our objective for the next NT elections is to ensure that Territorians have a strong option for stable government at the ballot. A genuine, locally relevant and a nationally significant political party for the Territory. This is something that is now desperately lacking in the NT. We are currently in discussions with a number of other parties and groups.

Territorians deserve better Government than that which has been on offer up until now.
Mr Osborne said that “key members of the SUPA executive bring a wealth of experience from previous membership of the other major parties, in business and the union movement. We are looking forward to bridging the generational divide and presenting Territorians with policies that are socially conscious, environmentally responsible and can deliver a dynamic economy.

Let’s not leave it up to the current lot who continue to trade on their brand’s past credibility, which in recent times has been sadly lacking. Having a political brand alone is just not good enough; you actually have to have someone who knows what they are doing to provide good government. It’s clear to me that the current lot have proven over and over that they are not capable of delivering accountable and transparent governance.

Mr Osborne and SUPA Party Secretary, Warwick Stacey, are planning to visit Alice Springs and Darwin in the August/September timeframe to meet with key ACP members and others.

We are all looking forward to ensuring Territory candidates of a high standard are selected to represent the Australian Country Party – ACP, at the next 2020 NT elections.
