MEDIA RELEASE

Adelaide, South Australia. Gay Dennis, founder of Cushion Bazaar, the Adelaide furniture and home décor brand has just launched her bold new collection of Bone Inlay Furniture and Decorative Cushions inspired by ancient cultural design.

“I’ve always been passionate about interior design and collecting special pieces from ancient cultures for my home in Australia.

For many years I’ve wanted to launch my own Home Décor Collection, so having reached my sixties, after 30 years as a film producer, I took a deep breath and jumped right in”.

Gay’s objective, she said, was to create unique statement pieces that deliver the WOW factor and become a room’s focal point. With this in mind she started with a bold mix and match collection of Ikat and Geometric decorative cushions in 18 designs and 6 colours.

“I chose Ikat as the design focus of the cushion collection because these unique and timeless nomadic patterns aren’t readily available in Australia and are simply a show stealer in any space. They inject energy and life into a room and can be used with any decorating style – from traditional to contemporary.

Gay has always loved the exquisite craftsmanship of bone inlay furniture so it was not surprising that she next turned her focus to creating her unique black and white bone inlay collection which she commissioned directly with an artisan workshop in the magical region of Rajasthan India.

“My focus was again to create unique statement pieces that offer something new and individual to the Australian home decor market. The designs are bold, classic and timeless with pieces inspired by different eras that work with any style of home décor. Currently there are 30 pieces in the collection with some still in production in India and many more on the drawing board”.

There were nevertheless many challenges along the way…

“With limited funding I had to do everything myself from designing the collection to building the website. Sourcing the right workshops in Asia to produce my collections was a real challenge and the additional task of importing these products into Australia was yet another steep learning curve and considerably risky on a number of levels.

I have however, fabulous plans to grow Cushion Bazaar along with my soon to be launched home décor brand, Black and White Home, into international brands. So, watch this space… I’ve just got started.”
