PRESS RELEASE: Samaritan’s Purse Supports Anxious, Tired Communities in New South Wales and Victoria

SYDNEY, NSW, 24 January, 2020 – This has been an unprecedented bushfire season and communities are exhausted. The fires are taking a toll on homeowners and local communities, and help is needed. The Samaritan’s Purse Disaster Response Team have been working in Batemans Bay, New South Wales and Bairnsdale, Victoria to provide assistance in bushfire affected communities. The Samaritan’s Purse volunteers are supporting homeowners who are just trying to get started repairing their homes, property or structures. Often homeowners say that they don’t know where to start; Samaritan’s Purse can provide homeowners with that start.

“There is much uncertainty and people are feeling anxious about what is happening, so we are trying to do jobs with a sense of immediacy because we want to let them know that they are cared for and not forgotten. People seem tired so we just want to bring a sense of hope; we try and show up immediately with a team and assist them in whatever way they need.” Dan Stephens – Samaritan’s Purse Disaster Response Manager Australia and New Zealand.

Volunteers help families to clear their property, remove debris, chop up fallen trees, sift through ash and provide emotional support in Jesus’ Name. All assistance is offered free of charge. Samaritan’s Purse would welcome more volunteers. If you are able to help visit www.samaritanspurse.org.au/volunteerwithsp
