PRESS RELEASE: 100 Red years’ celebration
100 years of Communist Work in Australia will be marked on October 30, 2020
“We call on the people in Australia to be aware that this Friday October 30 marks the centenary of the Communist Party of Australia”, said Andrew Irving, General Secretary of the CPA.
“The Party started in Sydney at Trades Halls on October 30, 1920 went onto to play key roles in social movements in Australia”, Mr Irving added.
“There is hardly a worker’s right that we cannot trace to the Communist Leadership of various unions from the 40 hours week to job safety and many others”, Vinnie Molina, Party president said.
The Party has played an outstanding role in the alerting the White Australian population to the injustice meted out to Aboriginal people.
In regard to the peace movement it has been the backbone of the movement for much of the last 100 years and succeeded in speeding up the independence of Indonesia, East Timor and Vietnam.
To commemorate the Centenary of the CPA several functions and activities have been organised in major capital cities, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
100 years of being true to the working class – for workers’ rights, for peace, for good housing and against racism. We fight for Socialism!
