PRESS RELEASE: Samaritan’s Purse Provides Critical Relief to Australian Communities Amid COVID-19 Lockdowns

Sydney, NSW, 30 August 2021 — As positive COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Australia, Samaritan’s Purse has partnered with churches in New South Wales to support communities that are facing physical, emotional and financial hardship. With ongoing lockdowns and increasing unemployment, many Australians are struggling to provide for their families and are feeling isolated now more than ever before.

The Christian disaster relief organisation is coming alongside local churches, equipping them to care for the vulnerable in their community as they distribute everyday essentials such as food, hygiene and household items, and provide emotional support. Assistance is being given to international students, refugees, the homeless, the elderly, those who have lost their jobs, low-income families and immigrants.

“We want to work with local churches on the frontline of any disaster in Australia,” said Jodie Reid, projects manager for Samaritan’s Purse Australia. “We all have a common goal – to help people in Jesus’ Name – by providing these churches with resources, strategies and funding we are helping them reach their communities while achieving this goal.”

This response comes 12 months after Samaritan’s Purse first partnered with local churches to bring physical relief to Australians impacted by the 2020 COVID-19 lockdowns in New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania and South Australia. The organisation’s church partners cared for over 6,000 individuals across the country.
