PRESS RELEASE: Accessible tour operator Cocky Guides seeks volunteers to join the team as sighted guides for blind and low-vision travellers
Cocky Guides is an award-winning social enterprise that provides unique, multi-sensory adventures for the blind and low-vision community. To provide more opportunities to serve more travellers, Cocky Guides are introducing volunteer sighted guide roles to assist their trip leaders in delivering more experiences and even greater service excellence.
Are you interested in getting out and about and discovering new places? Are you passionate about sharing travel experiences with other travellers that may require support? Do you love interacting with people? Do you work well in a team? Are you flexible with being away from home from time to time? If you have answered yes to all five questions, then being a Sighted Guide Volunteer may be the perfect role for you!
Cocky Guides Founder James (Buck) McFarlane says, “Cocky Guides exists to create travel experiences for blind and low-vision Australians with tactile and sensory elements that engage and showcase destinations. We are now in a growth phase and would like to ensure we can offer more capacity and flexibility to enable more participation from the blind and low-vision communities. These new volunteer roles for sighted guides will help us achieve this.”
Cocky Guides are interested to hear from people that ideally have:
– Good communication and interpersonal skills to engage with people in a group setting.
– Patience in delivering sighted guide assistance to travellers in new environments.
– The physical ability to guide travellers with a visual impairment.
