POD STAR REUSABLE COFFEE CAPSULE FOR ALDI EXRESSI AND CAFFITALY

Sydney eco business, Star Eco Products, is set to be the first company in the world to produce a fully stainless steel, refillable coffee pod for the Aldi Expressi and Caffitaly Coffee machines. Coffee drinkers will now get to choose their favourite coffee and can fill their Pod Star capsules without creating any waste with this innovative new ‘lifetime’ product.
The huge environmental cost of single-use plastic is firmly in the spotlight around the world, and the zero waste pod is a step welcomed by waste and plastic-reduction groups in Australia. Currently well over 3 million coffee pods are being disposed of per day in Australia alone, with some estimates as much as doubling that figure. The rise of the cost-effective Aldi Expressi and Caffitaly machines, currently sold in Aldi and Woolworths respectively for between $85 – $120 contribute to much of the single use coffee pods, which are 100% plastic and go from the coffee machine straight to landfill. Every eight days, used single-use pods can fill an area the size of an Olympic swimming pool. En-masse, the waste from such a small product is devastatingly large.
Australian Mark Denning, the designer of Australia’s Aria Award, and his eco New Zealand born wife, Kirsten Williams, are the driving force behind Eco Star Products, which they founded in August 2018 with their flagship product – the Pod Star Capsule for Nespresso machines. The Nespresso-combatible capsules have been a huge hit with Nespresso users who can now save money while having coffee of their choice, and no longer produce all the single-use capsule waste. Within weeks of the business’s inception, the Pod Star couple were contacted daily by people seeking an eco solution for their Aldi Expressi Machines and Caffitaly Machines. There were no reusable Aldi Expressi pods available, and so the Pod Star couple felt a responsibility to develop a lifetime reusable capsule for these two popular machines. Being on the mission to eliminate single-use pods means finding a solution for all capsule coffee machines on the market.
The Pod Star Aldi and Caffitaly capsules launched as a crowd-funding project on Kickstarter in January 2019, and the project was fully funded from keen buyers within a few days, achieving 157% of their target. With the market behind them, Star Eco Products have produced the final mold and the first production run of the food grade stainless steel capsules that so many have eagerly awaited.
The Pod Star Capsule for Aldi and Caffitaly machines retails at $44.95 for a single and $79.95 for a double, and is designed to be re-used for a lifetime.
