PRESS RELEASE: Cosmetic Super Centre ‘Géniale’ to include psychology into its ‘Designer Vagina’ assessments

Australia’s most comprehensive medical laser, cosmetic surgery and intimate services centre, ‘Géniale in Sydney’s Drummoyne, is set to include psychology within its repertoire of holistic services. Launched only twelve months ago, the all in one cosmetic super centre provides a haven for men and women to experience a breadth of services under the one roof – from medical laser and cosmetic surgery, to naturopathy, to the increasingly popular labiaplasty.

Given the growing demand for the cosmetic procedure, Géniale’s founder, Dr Mike Shenouda has also cited a need to ensure that those who have decided to have the procedure, are evaluated through the lens of a psychologist before they meet the end of the laser. A sensitive topic on more fronts than one, Labiaplasty is a simple, near pain-free procedure for women with underlying conditions, who experience physical discomfort, or who wish to alter the appearance of their vagina for cosmetic reasons – generally to correct a physical deformity and improve its aesthetic appearance, increase pleasure during sex, reduce pain during sex, and also to correct physical damage caused by sexual abuse in minors.

The procedure itself, alters the labia minora (inner labia) and the labia majora (outer labia), the folds of skin surrounding the human vulva and is designed to change the size, colour or shape of the labia, often to reduce the length of the labia or to correct an asymmetry between them.

At Géniale, Labiaplasty has been performed for all sorts of reasons – minor and major, including a yoga instructor experiencing continued discomfort due to the size of her vaginal lips, to more severe cases where the procedure has helped young rape victims move on from the damage caused at a young age. Physically limiting, an oversized or irregular sized labium can prevent women from having sex, can cause discomfort during sex and an inability to insert tampons. There are also a few cases where we have had to turn women away who feel they need this surgery, due to false ideals of what the ‘perfect vagina’ is meant to look like. In these instances, we have found that emotional support in the form of psychology sessions is highly effective.

Trained in medicine and medical aesthetics in three continents, Dr Mike states: “We are fortunate to be able to empower women – physically and emotionally, through the wonders of cosmetic procedures. As demand for our service increases, we feel that an in house psychologist would also be able to provide an added layer of assessment and care that each case requires. Not only to support the women who require the surgery, we also wish to support the other end of the spectrum by alleviating the term ‘designer vagina’, and the need to have one if we feel it’s not necessary. We wish to ensure that women do not succumb to misguided notions of how the media or pornography industry influences how their vagina should look, and feel that sometimes a psychology session would be more powerful than a procedure”.

Says Dr Mike “We have a plethora of some of the most progressive techniques, cosmetic and laser equipment found in the country, enabling us to provide men and women with the most up to date services and procedures. With that comes a lot of excitement in exploring the possibilities of how we physically enhance our patients to be their best. By offering an in house psychologist, we are also able to help ensure our patients feel comfortable about the decisions they are making.

This isn’t about surgery, in fact, I want to avoid my clients feeling like they need to turn to surgery. I wanted to create an environment where clients can explore what it will really take to make them feel beautiful”.
