NEW MOBICON COMPACT STRADDLE CARRIER
Mobicon does away with wire ropes and introduces 8-wheel steering

Brisbane, Queensland. (April 9, 2019) – Mobicon Systems have released a new Straddle Carrier that can stack 20’ and 40’ shipping containers and can place containers under awn-ings. The Straddle Carrier does this without the use of wire ropes. The Straddle Carrier has eight-wheel steering which provides excellent manoeuvrability.
Mobicon has a history of designing innovative container lifters suitable for companies that need to pack and unpack shipping containers. Their first container handler the Two Tower Mobicon is now 22 years old and is still in high demand. Still, Mobicon are committed to innovation and future thinking.

“Requirements change”, says Tom Schults, the MD of Mobicon Systems. “Some of our cli-ents want to stack containers in their yard and also want to place containers under awnings. They do not like using potentially dangerous wire ropes that need maintenance and regular replacement. Some people require a tighter turning circle. We can provide that … and more.”

The new Compact Mobicon creates efficient lifting by using maintenance-free hydraulic cylinders. This takes away the risks of breaking wire ropes alongside the cost of greasing and regularly replacing them. The new advancement also eliminates any dangerous swing-ing of the container. The Compact Mobicon can move with a container kept low to the ground which eliminates lifting it to the top when driving. This speeds up operating time and lowers the centre of gravity, which reducing stresses on the structure. The eight-wheel steer-ing that was designed for Mobicon, now in use by the US Navy, is now also made available on the Compact Mobicon ensuring excellent manoeuvrability.
Most Mobicons are used on standard yards that are not designed for high wheel weights. All Mobicons have load equalising bogies, assuring that the lowest load centre weight of any container handler in the world are maintained. The new Compact Mobicon arrives as the benchmark in container handling.
