ON TRACK TO A BETTER FUTURE: GEOFABRICS AUSTRALIA ACCEPTS INVITATION TO JOIN INFRASTRUCTURE SUSTAINABILITY COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA (ISCA)

31ST JULY 2020

Diverting millions of plastic bottles from Australian landfill to nation-building infrastructure projects has helped secure ground-breaking manufacturer Geofabrics Australia membership of the important Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA).
The announcement is welcome recognition of Geofabrics Australia’s 2020 Vision, industry leadership and long-standing commitment to a greener future — and jobs for local workers — built on a suite of geosynthetic products used in major rail, road, and mining projects in Australia and overseas. ISCA is a member-based peak body promoting sustainable outcomes in infrastructure in Australia and New Zealand.
The development comes amid global recognition for Geofabrics Australia’s latest innovation, bidim® Green, a premium geotextile incorporating Australian-sourced recycled PET bottles in the manufacturing process, making it a key contributor to waste reduction and vital social, environmental and economic benefits. The bidim® Green is a high-grade, non-woven, long-lasting geotextile solution for large-scale and complex drainage, filtration and separation projects.
The bidim® has traditionally been made in Australia with polymer sourced from offshore markets. The bidim® Green will replace between 500 and 1,000 tonnes of imported polymer with Australian-sourced recycled PET bottles. The significant volume of recycled Australian plastics expected to go into bidim® Green in the first year post-launch will create and strengthen an Australian recycling supply chain, provide the plastics recycling market with volume and maturity and strengthen the national circular economy.
Dennis Grech, Managing Director & CEO of Geofabrics Australasia, said winning ISCA membership was a milestone achievement for the company as its five-year plan, the lauded 2020 Vision, arrived at its full potential “playing its part in shaping the future of infrastructure sustainability by introducing Bidim Green”.
“Geofabrics has a rich history in Australian manufacturing and building Australia’s road, rail, and mining infrastructure,” Mr Grech said. “We take great pride in doing this with sensitivity to our environment and to innovate and launch new products that deliver real social, environmental and economic benefit to our country. These values are very much aligned with ISCA’s values, and I look forward to Geofabrics continuing to build our nation’s strategic assets in partnership with ISCA.”
What’s more, Mr Grech said, bidim® Green is now available on the ISupply directory, allowing Geofabrics Australia clients to add, for the first time, an Australian-made geotextile to their IS-rated projects.
Highly sought Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia membership is granted to high-performing Australian companies committed to global best-practice in infrastructure leadership, change advocacy and market transformation, and purposeful, inclusive organisational health.
