PRESS RELEASE: Online Health Record Gives Peace of Mind

Online health record gives peace of mind
If anyone knows the importance of up to date medical records it’s Sue Clarebrough, a Nurse Practitioner from Wangaratta in Victoria’s sunny north.
Sue has worked in many places around Australia including Melbourne, Perth, Wangaratta, and as a FIFO nurse on the Snowy Hydro Scheme and in outback Queensland. The resounding factor that continues to be important for Sue in her work is that up to date medical records are extremely important.
“When a patient presents with a range of health issues it is very hard for doctors and nurses to get an understanding of the patient’s history when the patient is too unwell to communicate clearly and/or timing is tight. My Health Record helps us enormously in this regard. We can quickly access the patient’s record and glean critical information from the uploaded documents and medicines view.”
My Health Record is a secure online summary of all your key health information that allows you, your GP and other health professionals to see your medical history including prescriptions, allergies, immunisations and test results.
Currently working in a town that has many seasonal visitors Sue strongly recommends people register for My Health Record being going on holidays because they are unlikely to take their medical records with them.
Says Sue, “If you need a new prescription and can’t remember the name of the medication, your new doctor can access your record and see which medications you take. This is very reassuring for patients.”
As a Nurse Practitioner with a strong community focus Sue believes the recently strengthened legislation around increased protection for victims of domestic and family violence will be enormously helpful. Sue says, “We have vulnerable patients in complicated social circumstances whose privacy must be maintained. The strengthened legislation will assist this.”
