Canberra, ACT Australian Organic hosted its annual awards gala in Canberra at Pialligo Estate Glasshouse. It was an evening of celebration, recognizing the outstanding contribution made by the nation’s organic industry over the past year, showcasing leading products, businesses and individuals.

This year’s judges said entrants exceeded expectations, commenting, “With so many innovative new products, successful business stories and extraordinary individuals, this year’s finalists are a true credit to our industry which has quickly become one of the most dynamic markets in Australia.”

Founder of Ozganics Australia, one of Australia’s first organic food companies, Anni Brownjohn, was recognized for her tireless commitment to the industry, receiving Australian Organics’ 2018 Chairman Of The Year Award. The award was given to Anni by Dr Andrew Monk, retiring Chairman of Australian Organic, in recognition of her 20 years of service to the industry.

Anni established Australia’s original organic food development and manufacturing business, Ozganics Australia, back in 1999, to meet the market demand for nutritious, allergen friendly meal solutions. Since this time she has been responsible for engineering many of the organic quality standards upheld today and liaising with government officials for national recognition, support and endorsement.

As a recipient of Australian Organic’s 2018 Chairman Of Year award, Anni joins other industry pioneers recognized for their outstanding leadership, entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to sustainable and socially responsible practices.

During her acceptance speech, Anni paid tribute to the hard work of Australian organic producers, remarking that “20 years later, we have absolutely cleaned up the paddock, washed our feet, put our boots back on and we are here to show the world just how great Australian organic food and many [sic] other products are. This award is for all us, because everyday we strive to grow organics”.

With organic food now entering the shopping basket of two in three households, the future for the industry and businesses such as Ozganics Australia is bright. As Dr Monk explains, “there is a growing demand, both domestically and internationally, for Australian certified products with maturity in terms of supply chains and supply-ability to the world.”

A national survey conducted by Australian Organic in 2018 revealed that the country’s domestic market is worth an impressive $2.4billion, while the export market is turning over in excess of $700 million and growing by 15 per cent per annum.

Anni and her team at Ozganics Australia are looking forward to the future, having recently introduced a brand new look for the original OZGANICS range and organic baby food products to capitalize on growing consumer awareness.

“It has certainly been challenging – but bearing witness to consumer demand finally catching up to sustainable supply is very exciting. We work closely with our suppliers, sourcing only the finest certified organic ingredients, so our customers get the full nutritional benefits. And with our new year, new look launch we are well positioned to expand our reach and the green cause to even more busy families both nationally and abroad,” said Anni.
