PRESS RELEASE: Potter calls on Labor to support rail line
Australian Federation Party Candidate for Eden-Monaro Jason Potter announced today that he is 100 per cent committed to seeing the proposed Eden to Canberra rail line built as soon as possible. The proposed railway line would provide for freight and passenger transport from Eden to Canberra connecting the coast to inland towns and cities. “This project would provide local communities with jobs in the construction and running of the railway as well as provide a significant economic boost to the region,” said Jason Potter. “This is exactly the kind of development we need as we seek to recover economically from the trauma of the bushfires and the collapse of tourism and small business during COVID19.”
The project has been the subject of a $1 Million dollar NSW government feasibility study and was supported in writing by the Labor Candidate Kristy McBain when she was the Independent Mayor of Bega. The feasibility study was announced by Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Member for Monaro John Barilaro and Member for Bega Andrew Constance in Cooma on the 22nd August 2018. The feasibility study has been completed but the results are yet to be publicly released.
“We call on the Labor Party, and all other candidates, to announce their support for this project immediately,” said Jason Potter. “This infrastructure project will bring economic, social and environmental benefits throughout the entire Eden-Monaro region that are essential to our local communities, towns and cities.
End.
