PRESS RELEASE: South Australian Hazara Community Rise to the Aid of the Bushfire Affected Communities
On behalf of the South Australian Hazara community, I would like to send our deepest condolences to the families, friends and community of those who have tragically lost their lives. And the brave firefighters who continue to risk their own lives to save the lives of others and our beautiful country.
The South Australian Hazara community has raised approximately $90,000.00 for the bushfire-affected communities.
As Australia is hit by one of the most devastating bushfire seasons, member of Hazara Community from across South Australia felt they have to give back to their country in times of need.
Thousands of Hazaras have settled in Australia after fleeing war and persecutions in Afghanistan and Pakistan over the past three decades. Alongside those who are now Australian citizens, we also have Hazara refugees and asylum seekers who have also contributed to this fund-raising campaign.
Our donations were raised through online campaigns and events organised by a committee called Cooperation committee of South Australia’s Hazaras for Natural Disasters.
Member of Hazara community in South Australia deeply feels the sacrifices that our generous firefighters have made to defend the affected communities. And once again we continue to offer condolences and sympathies with the families, friends and communities who have fallen during the bushfire crisis.
In addition, about one hundred volunteers from Hazara Community have registered their readiness to contribute to the bushfire recovery campaign.
The raised donations will be officially handed to the South Australian authorities this Sunday 9 Feb 2020 at 6 pm. The ceremony will be held in Wali-e Asr Centre located at 12 Barfield Crescent, Edinburgh North SA 5113
Thank you
(South Australian Hazara community)
