FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Teenager Shows the Big Names How It’s Done with Digital Football Empire
Sydney, Australia – August 19, 2020 – Some of the biggest companies in Australia and across the world pay good money to generate engagement on social media and to boost their digital presence. 18 – year-old Benjamin Horwitz decided he could do it all himself.
Back in 2017, Horwitz launched Tekkers, a network of social media profiles designed to help users share a love of football and also to share their outrageous skills. Since that time, Horwitz’s own digital marketing has developed with pace, and Tekkers now boasts 1.3 million followers — 1.25 of which are found on Instagram — and an average engagement rate of 2.8 per cent.
Tekkers’ follower figures put them in the top 1 per cent of profiles on Instagram, while the engagement rate is far better than that of most of Tekkers’ market peers, including big hitters like Copa 90, Sporf and Barstool Sports. Tekkers also has more followers than many Premier League sides, including West Ham, Wolves, Sheffield United and Crystal Palace, as well as big brands like Umbro and New Balance Football.
Horwitz followed up this social media success with a dedicated website, Tekkers.co, to give his property a home of its own online. The website continues to showcase the skills and techniques of its highly engaged users, and it also delivers football news and discussion related to what is going on in the world of soccer.
This success has not gone unnoticed by the athletes out on the pitch either. World Cup finalist Marcelo Brozovic is a fan of the brand, while Premier League stalwarts Christian Fuchs and Ayoze Perez are also followers. The pages have even caught the attention of Socceroos royalty, with Aussie legend Tim Cahill counting himself among the Tekkers faithful.
Off the pitch, The Daily Show host Trevor Noah is also a follower of Horwitz’s work, rounding off an impressive — and highly influential — set of celebrity fans.
All of this would be a serious accomplishment for anyone, but it is even more remarkable considering that Benjamin Horwitz is still at school. As Tekkers has grown exponentially in the last year, he has been preparing his final school year exams, resulting in a difficult balancing act between running a successful digital empire and getting the right results at school.
Factor in Horwitz’s location in Australia — on the opposite side of the world to much of the unfolding football action and to many of Tekkers’ fans — and the challenge becomes even greater, with Horwitz waking up at all hours of the night to post the latest football info on his site and on social media. Despite the difficulties associated with running his channels, and now his website, Horwitz remains unfazed.
As he says, football is his passion, and the opportunity to turn that passion into a livelihood is something he just can’t turn down. As a measure of Tekkers popularity and influence, Horwitz was invited by New Balance to play in a media match at Anfield after the final game of the 2019 season. He counts scoring in front of the Kop as a lifetime highlight.
The next steps for Horwitz include continuing to develop the Tekkers social media and web presence and to get the grades he needs from his final year exams. After that, Horwitz plans to complete a social media degree whilst overseeing Tekkers expansion.
