PRESS RELEASE: THANKS SCOMO – New Aussie Song causing political controversy surrounding the recent doubling of JobSeeker welfare payments.

May 13, 2020 – Jose Peverill and Lee Horn, Australian based music artists, today released their controversial new song ‘THANKS SCOMO’ in response to the recent doubling of JobSeeker welfare payments due to Covid19.

THANKS SCOMO is a comic spoof written from the perspective of a JobSeeker welfare recipient, ecstatic about his welfare payments being doubled! The song features lyrics such as ‘Thanks Scomo for making our dreams come true!’ and “We’re better off on welfare – just having a punt and drinking!”

Singer songwriters, Peverill and Horn, believe that the doubling of the JobSeeker allowance will encourage complacency and demotivate Australian jobseekers, causing a reduction in the efforts of those seeking genuine employment opportunities.

With unemployment set to rise, they fear that the unemployment rate figures will become over inflated due to a lack of jobseeker motivation and not because of a shortfall in employment opportunities.
