PRESS RELEASE: The Power of Connecting. An event managers life.

The Power of Connecting. An event managers life.

Growth Gen (GG)
Generational growth for businesses that want to live.
(Live Virtual Summit, Tuesday the 22nd of September)

My journey in events started when I was 11 years old with my beautiful mother in a small East African country called Ethiopia. My mother was a wedding stylist and she had 2 big boys that she put to work and got them to do everything from sewing the drapes to picking up furniture and moving it in the event hall. Back then I didn’t know if I wanted to be in events, but I knew that I had a great love for music and being behind the scenes to help out the organiser and see people smiling while enjoying themselves at the event. Events has always been a big part of my life and I thoroughly enjoy seeing them come to life or simply attending them.

My name is Eyob Yesus and I run a small event management company in Sydney called Icon Corporate Events (The Experience Index PTY LTD). As the business world feels the effects of these challenging times, entrepreneurs and small businesses are questioning their direction and are looking for a holistic approach to doing business. The environment has changed for entrepreneurs and creating inspiring, practical and thought driven connections will be the key to fighting forward.

I’m a small business owner that went through the ups and downs of running a business. Event management is already a tough business and as an event manager I was inspired to talk about some of my learnings and help other businesses in the same position. Growth Gen (GG) (Live Virtual Summit, Tuesday the 22nd of September) was a concept that I developed as a part my endless pursuit of turning a particular subject matter into an engaging event. It was supposed to be, ‘The Ultimate Sales and Marketing’ event and oh how that tone changed since COVID. The concept was strong and maybe someday I will be able to develop it further however it gave me a chance to dig deeper and think about all the businesses and industries that are going through tough times at the moment. This was a great opportunity for me to share my skills as an event manager to showcase an engaging virtual event and my learnings in business.

Event managers aren’t given the praise and acknowledgement which we deserve, and we are partly accountable for this. As an event manager, we are the runners and organisers who work tirelessly behind the scenes on the day and months prior to the event. It’s our responsibility to make the event run seamlessly and with this we make ourselves invisible on event day and our efforts are credited to the event and organisation that runs the event.

Great event managers and organisers create incredible experiences with the focus of connecting people. The power of a great event manager is in their ability to understand a particular subject matter, company, genre and translating this into an engaging experience that connects people and creates lasting memories. The elation of this experience is what creates new relationships and stronger connections. The experience of that moment to be a part of history when attending a sporting event, a life changing keynote speaker or your favourite musician creates those memories and makes events one of the most powerful human connection platform in the world.

There are two things that business has taught me:
ONE: (Mindful Training) Getting clarity on your direction in both life and business is the key to navigating your way through the tough terrain that these times and business in general brings to you. The power of the mind is profound and the only way we can achieve our goals is by understanding who we are and visualising where we want to be in both life and in business. That clarity is the key to a more full-filling work-life frame and balance.

TWO: The logistics, the business acumen or even hiring the right people to get you to where you want to be in business is super important for your success. Strengthen this and you will have a much better chance surviving in business.

This job is definitely not for the faint hearted (5th stressful job after a policeman and fireman). The toll that it can take out of you will make you wonder why you put yourself through this position. The truth is the only reason why you’d want to continue in an industry like this, is because you truly love what you do.

Growth Gen is an event platform that offers both mindful training and business acumen to deliver a generational and timeless work-life frame. Please support our initiative.
We are building a new community and want you to join us on our journey.
