PRESS RELEASE: World First Virtual Reality (VR) Disaster Training program (Real MCI) v4 released

World First Virtual Reality (VR) Disaster Training program (Real MCI) v4 released July 8, 2019

Over the past 2.5 years, Real Response has been working to develop a world first mass casualty training program in Virtual Reality (VR) to solve the problem of how to train for low-frequency, high-impact events in prehospital and military medicine.

Launched in Dubai in March 2018, v1 relied on expensive, bulky and hard to operate equipment. In June 2019, the company released v4 which is capable of operating on a standalone device (Oculus Quest) for 1/10 of the cost, size and effort to set up.
Once inside, the first responders can communicate with patients; and assess, treat and triage a range of patients with varying injuries before deciding to send them to a casualty collection point or leaving them for further responders to evacuate.
As the first responder runs through each scenario, their actions are assessed, and this information is saved into a learning management system. This means students are not only able to train, but also be assessed in a way that’s replicable, leading to a more fair and equitable form of assessment.

The system is currently being trialed by ambulance services and militaries around the world.
In February 2019, the system won the prestigious EMS 10 Innovation Award in Washington DC, selected as one of the top 10 emergency medical service innovations in the world of 2018.
