Sam is the lead facilitator of the program “Choices – The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” which is designed to help teenage boys make good choices instead of ones that can turn ugly. Sam has always given back to the community and this program is a great example of his community spirit.

The timing of such a talk was perfect given the ‘ugly’ choice by some to use Stilnox at the London Olympics.

All the boys were impressed by Sam’s attitude to life, training, healthy diet and enjoying your chosen sport. We’re sure that the boys will make ‘good choices’ in pressure situations following Sam’s lecture, and steer clear of bad and ugly choices.

The Waterlions Committee would like to thank Head Coach Wayne Lawes for taking the time out of his busy schedule to help facilitate the meeting.

After the meeting Wayne Lawes said “ I had the absolute privilige of being able to watch Sam Soliman train just after Christmas so when I heard about this program I just had to be involved. If it helps just one boy make a better decision in their life then it is worthwhile.”

The Waterlions Swimming Club is based at the Grenda Aquatic Centre at the Haileybury College Campus, Springvale Road, Keysborough. The Grenda Aquatic Centre houses a heated 50 meter indoor 8-lane pool with a moveable bulkhead, allowing our swimmers to train for both long-course and short-course depending on the season.
This is one of the main competition pools in Victoria, hosting many competitions for the club and Metro District South, and has had many international teams training there.

Head Coach Wayne Lawes started the Waterlions in 1978. Wayne holds a Gold Class Coaching qualification from Swimming Australia which is the highest level obtainable. He also is a Victorian Institute of Sport Coach.
Wayne has coached many Swimmers on to the Australian Team including World Short Course Silver medalist Kelly Stubbins.

As a competitor, Wayne competed at national level in Freestyle and Breaststroke and is a former Australian Triathlon Champion and Victorian Triathlon team captain.
