PRESS RELEASE: First Ever: Sydney Fitness Show Showcases Pole Sport By Featuring Russian World Champion In Australia’s First Ever Pole Park

NEWS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
12/04/2019 X-POLE Australia

For the first time in the Australia – Russian Pole Acrobats, International Champion Pole Dancers & Aerial Performers will be Showcasing their talents as a Highlighted Feature at this year’s SYDNEY FITNESS SHOW, ICC Sydney, Darling Harbour 12-14th April; the Southern Hemisphere’s largest Health & Fitness expo.

Pole dancing has been one of Australia’s emerging niche sports over the last 20 years; with an average of 2x dedicated ‘Pole Studios’ opening every week, yet most people still struggle to think of ‘Pole Dance’ as ‘Pole Sport’. Highlighting Pole & Aerial athleticism by featuring it at the Sydney Fitness Show will challenge many preconceptions about the sport.

Katie Coates President of the International Pole Sports Federation: “It’s been a hindrance because people who haven’t seen our athletes compete don’t always realise that the type of performances and movements in the sport are completely different to those of an exotic dancer”
Jessie Dee Director of X-POLE Australia: “Pole is no longer just pole dance. There is contemporary pole, lyrical pole, pole fitness, acro classes, kids classes, gymnastic pole, aerial pole, pole bootcamp, circus pole, pole theatre and yes, sensual pole. They are all very different genres, just using the same apparatus. Much like football – there are different styles and different supporters; the Australian pole industry has many different forms.”
In Australia we have more Pole Champions per capita than any other country.
Coates is campaigning for Olympic inclusion. The IOC met with Coates and fast-tracked pole dancing to Olympic observer status. Pole is now the “youngest” sport to be awarded this level of recognition. “It’s an ambition for all our athletes to be part of the Olympic Games. So never say never. Everyone laughed at me when I first said we’d become a sport, and look where we are now.”
International Champion @dimitrypolitov has flown to Sydney to be a part of the Featured event.
Some of Dimitry’s titles include gold medals at all the following events: World Pole Sport Championship 2016 , World Ultra Pole Championship 2016, Pole Art Swiss 2016 in Geneva, World Pole Sport and Art Championship 2016 in Florence, World Pole Sport Championship 2017 in Amsterdam, World Artistic Pole Championship 2017, International Pole Championship 2018.
International Champion Andrea Ryff from Sydney Australia will be running FREE beginner workshops at the show to encourage everyday people to give Pole Sport a try.
Jessie Dee says: “Pole fitness is not about appearing sexy. Anyone that’s been to any Cirque show will tell you that. A pole is simply a piece of aerial equipment, used in many different ways. Nothing more. At the show we will have two fixed poles but also for the first time the FLY Pole that swings like a pendulum.”
X-POLE is the largest pole brand in the world. In Australia, X-POLE wholesales professional grade Aerial & Pole equipment to over 200 dedicated Pole studios, in addition to hundreds of Gyms / Fitness Centres & over 30,000 home users.
