PRESS RELEASE: HUNDREDS OF DADS TO WALK WITH PRAMS
HUNDREDS OF DADS TO WALK WITH PRAMS
VISION OPPORTUNITY: DOZENS of Brisbane dads with babies and toddlers will walk
side by side in a Man With a Pram event in the CBD this Saturday June 29.
A Queensland-based, national program called Dads Group Inc (DGI) has created over 100 dads groups right around Australia for young and expectant dads.
These groups are like mums groups but for dads.
The dads groups enable thousands of Australian dads to get out of the house on their own with their children and connect with other dads.
The regular social opportunity helps dads who are feeling lonely, anxious, or overwhelmed.
It helps them bond better with their children and also gives mums a much-deserved break.
On Saturday in Brisbane the national Man With a Pram Father’s Day event will be launched.
It will see hundreds of dads walk together on Fathers Day (Sunday September 1) with their kids in prams in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Hobart and Perth – as well as in smaller regional areas. Dads make a donation to walk.
The Brisbane walk this Saturday will start at 8.30am in front of The Gardens Club in the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens for a 1.5km walk to Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The money raised will stay in the communities that support each event.
All Man With a Pram walks will support new father and family programs in their community through DGI’s partnerships with local and not- for-profit partners.
DGI founder, chief executive and father-of-three Tom Docking, from Mount Coolum, set up the first dads group five years ago during his wife Kate’s first pregnancy.
“I went looking for support programs for expectant and new dads and there was just nothing,” he said. “And I just thought ‘how can there be all this support geared towards new mums but nothing for new dads?’.”
DGI is looking for partners and sponsors to help them connect with more young dads.
