PRESS RELEASE: Corporate Wellness programs can improve employee mental health and productivity

Sydney, 2020: Businesses should implement a Corporate Wellness program to improve employee mental health, and boost productivity and engagement at work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mental health is a major crisis in the COVID-19 environment, with many workers feeling disorientated and stressed by the pandemic and the uncertainty of the future. Remote working has also made it difficult to maintain employee engagement and productivity, leaving some businesses struggling.

Fitness expert and founder of Lyon Fitness, Robert Lyon, has worked within the fitness industry for 15 years. He provides Corporate Wellness services for several law firms in Sydney, including McCabe Curwood.

“Now is an essential time for businesses to look at implementing a Corporate Wellness strategy if they haven’t done so already. The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted workplace rhythm and dynamics, in many cases disengaging and de-motivating staff – especially if they are experiencing stress and anxiety,” he said.

“There is extensive evidence that improvements in physical health and fitness leads to increases in work productivity, task focus and mental resilience. People who are fitter, healthier and happier do better in fast paced and stressful environments, and have more effective communication and problem solving skills. This leads to improvements in work output and overall earning capacity across each and every occupation and workforce.”

Managing Principal at McCabe Curwood, Andrew Lacey, said that he saw and felt the first-hand benefits of utilising a Corporate Wellness program at the law firm.

“Rob developed a holistic program for McCabe Curwood prior to the COVID-19 pandemic tailored specifically to our employees. It was impressive to see staff engaging in regular exercise, yoga and mindfulness activities, and the reduced stress and improved productivity it facilitated,” he said.

As businesses look for ways to improve employee wellbeing and cultivate a strong work ethic, increased focus on health should be a priority.

Rob said: “It’s a simple concept, but when put into action it can have some really impressive results.”
