The Tan Track is an iconic location and one of the most popular running tracks in the world. People from all walks of life and abilities have either jogged, raced, walked or trained on the Tan track. Most people can relate to what their PB is around the tan. The clocks were installed around the tan in 2011 to encourage and inspire people to use the Tan Track. Elite athletes are motivated and pride themselves on having their name on the digital clocks. In early 2020, Run the TAN established a central database and set of rules & regulations for what constitutes an official time around The Tan. The current record holders are Craig Mottram – 10.08 (Male) ran in 2006 and Genevieve Gregson – 11.54 (Female) ran in 2020.
AIA Vitality is the naming rights sponsor of this exciting new event, with support from City of Melbourne, Bennelong Foundation and Athletics Victoria to help bring life back into Melbourne post COVID-19. AIA Vitality is the world-leading, science-backed health and wellbeing program offered by AIA Australia, a life and health insurer focused on helping people live healthier, longer, better lives.
CEO and Managing Director of AIA Australia and New Zealand, Damien Mu said that partnering with the event was an opportunity to inspire people to take small steps towards improving their health and wellbeing, which is the foundation of the AIA Vitality program.
“We are passionate about physical and mental wellbeing, and we know that small improvements can add up to big changes over time. As Melbourne reopens, we can’t wait to see people getting back out to events like this and experiencing the benefits that come not only from physical activity, but also social interaction and a sense of community, said Mr Mu.
Darren Templeton, founder of Run the TAN said “We are very excited to partner with AIA Vitality to announce the launch of this new event. Australia does not have an event such as this on its running calendar and people need something positive to look forward to next year”
Registrations for the Run the TAN showcase event are expected to open in early 2021. However, given the limited spaces available for the public fun run event, people are being encouraged to pre-register their interest now using the form on the Run the TAN event website (www.runthetan.net) so that they don’t miss out.
