PRESS RELEASE: Will Perth Divers Take to The Water This Summer After The Recent Shark Sighting? – Our Survey Results Are In!

A survey conducted by Reef Mask has revelled that regular snorkelers on Perth beaches are not concerned about the recent increase in shark sightings! Government schemes such as the Shark Tracker app, drum lines and culling were also surveyed with interesting results. 71.33% had heard of the Shark Tracker app and 81.82% had or would download it, over 75% of participants strongly oppose any form of shark culling whilst there remaining 25% said yes or were open to the idea. Shark education from both state and local government was also surveyed with 83%.08 believing more needs to be done! The survey was conducted by 663 verified users from Reef Mask Perth customer base as well as the Perth snorkel Facebook group.

John from Reef Mask’s had this to say: “The results from the survey really shined a light on the need and thirst for more education in this area! Australians love the ocean and its clear from the results that most west Aussies won’t be deterred from going to the beaches this summer despite the increase in shark sighting.”
