SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, Safe Havens Sentinel V2: A modern platform enabling organisations to build and monitor Child-Safe capabilities

An effective Child-Safe organisation is one that invests in creating new internal capabilities where you are better equipped to identify, report, respond to and most importantly help prevent child sexual abuse before it happens.

Being child-safe is defined in great detail by the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Abuse. It is covered by three volumes of the final report, over 1140 pages. This outlines a comprehensive plan to create cultural change in the community and organisations. It seeks not only to establish what needs to exist, but also provides strategies for achieving these goals so that children are valued, their rights are respected, as well as being looked after with paramount interests of all parties involved.

Organisations interact with children across a broad range of sectors and activities, such as schools, sport and recreation clubs, support services and childcare centres. Together they form part of the fabric of our daily lives and reflect community priorities, needs and values. Making such organisations safe for children requires making communities safe – places where every child is valued, and where their rights to safety and wellbeing are respected and upheld.

The Child Safe Standards articulate the essential requirements of a child safe organisation. The Child Safe Standards guide what’s needed to do to be child safe by setting best practice to drive and guide performance. Being Child Safe is summarised and communicated by ten headline standards or principles that cover areas of leadership, systems, training, and engagement. The standards are further defined by 35 core components and 181 more detailed requirements that provide clarity on the specifics that need to be implemented and monitored.

The new laws passing through the state governments now require organisations to be Child-Safe. This places the responsibility directly on leaders for resources, funding, manpower etc. to be allocated to ensure Child-Safe standards and the defined capabilities are implemented effectively.

In this context, we are pleased to announce the V2 release of Safe Havens Sentinel, a platform designed for organisations that need to be child-safe. This is quite singularly our child-safe edition that supports a) Child-Safe capability development and monitoring and b) end-to-end reporting and protection systems.

Safe Havens Sentinel V2 lets you convert all the Royal Commission’s child-safe requirements into operational elements redefined [such as goals, objectives, measures, targets] in a language and context your teams and organisation types [schools, daycare centres, places of worship etc] can understand and measure. We help implementation teams prioritise workloads, track deployment and implementation progress with self-audits, gap assessments, and task management. By combining maturity profiling with geo-mapping and cross locations peer reviews we can help you build an outcome-focused performance culture.

Safe Havens Sentinel V2 extends its reach to include a range of organisation types, such as schools, councils, sporting, and faith/religious groups. It is built from the ground up to scale and support the unique complexities of Australia’s geographies and the vast number of organisational structures that have a responsibility to care for children.

“The release of the new Safe Havens Sentinel V2 is a major step forward in addressing Australia’s considerable challenge to significantly reduce child abuse and neglect. With its flexible design, this platform enables organisations to build capabilities that are child-safe across hundreds of locations while monitoring what’s going on at any given moment – all from one system,” said John Ackery, the Safe Havens team.

“Safe Havens Sentinel is a modern platform designed to systemise and operationalise the deployment and management of child-safe capabilities for everyone, everywhere. It is supported by an end to end protection system that is child and community-friendly that seamlessly integrates with multiple frontline operational teams [Schools, Councils, Sporting groups and Religious communites] and back-office safeguarding operations & services” said John Ackery, Customer Success of Safe Havens.
