PRESS RELEASE: Miroma Project Factory delivers a revolutionary ‘care at home’ support platform – LIV – funded by the Department of Health, to assist people living at home independently longer.

The Department of Health (Aged Care) awarded Miroma Project Factory (MPF) $1.2m in grant funding as part of the National Dementia Support Program in 2018 to build a digital platform that build a support network around vulnerable and at-risk people by making it easy to find relevant service, resources and suppliers, engage with your local community, seek and receive the help they need on a day to day basis and engage with people they can share and learn from.

While the initial platform is targeted for people living with dementia and their carers, the platform has been built to provide the same levels of support for any person or community in need.

The Dementia and Aged Care Services (DACS) Fund has been strengthening the capacity of the aged care sector since 2015, they have allocated approximately $331.9 million over 4 years to 30 June 2023.

Over the last two years MPF have worked closely with the dementia community as part of a co-design process; and have relied on the support and guidance of Dementia Collaboration, hosted by Northern Sydney Local Health District, Community Care Northern Beaches, Multicultural Communities Council of the Illawarra, Dementia Australia, CSIRO and Dr Dimity Pond. The platform is part of a formal pilot study with CSIRO.

The platform builds on the concept of providing relevant local services, trusted information and resources, a forum to share with peers; with a private social network of known friends, family and community members to create a ‘community of care’. The cross-platform digital solution allows these communities to be created around any vulnerable person or to provide a support network to help lighten the burden of a primary carer.

Dr Dana Bradford, Australian eHealth Research Centre at CSIRO says “This is exactly what people living with dementia have been asking for.”

The platform, marketing website, administration portal and associated Apple and Google application is currently live and LIV is available to the public by downloading the app on the Apple App and Google Play stores now.

The idea is to optimise the technology so it can easily be applied to other at-risk cohorts, such as those with Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and traumatic brain injury.

Managing Director of MPF, Kat Robinson says, “Over the last two years, I have watched our team and partners relentlessly pursue LIV; the at-home care ecosystem that will support, guide and grow social connectivity across multiple cohorts. It is a bold and advantageous platform and one we are immensely proud of. We intend to continue building out features to support as many chronic illnesses as possible. I am excited about its future.”

MPF is excited to continue to grow and expand upon this technology which builds upon the growing concept of ‘at home care’, and can play an important role for communities across the globe.
