22-year old, Harrison James from Sydney, has taken matters into his own hands… as a victim of child sexual abuse he understands how male victims are silenced more than anyone in today’s society; which pushed him to create a short 11 minute film he uploaded to his Instagram account on March 31st detailing his story:
Abused by his father as a young boy and molested by his step mother from ages 13 – 16, to which she fell pregnant to his child when he was just 15; to then his step mother falsely accusing him of rape through an email and fleeing Australia to her home country of the Phillipines with his daughter when he was 19 – Harrison’s bravery of coming out publicly has been applauded and it is now his “mission to spread his story like wildfire” so more male victims are inspired to come forward.
“It is not my fault what happened, but it is my responsibility to do something great with it.” James stated.
“People don’t realise that sexual abuse does not discriminate – It can happen too anyone and come from anyone. I’m here to give male victims and survivors of sexual assault a voice through my story and I want to be a leader for them, so we can get away from this conversation about sexual assault being skewed towards one gender – because we need to start talking about it as an abuse of power across the board.”
To date, the abuse of males is still underrepresented in our literature, statistics and programs pertinent to sexual abuse.
