PRESS RELEASE: Lismore Jr Rugby Club turns to crowdfunding after unprecedented floods

Lismore Junior Rugby Club Clubhouse was damaged during the recent unprecedented flooding event that left tens of thousands homeless. Fellow Junior Rugby Club members, The Mosman U12’s, are fundraising to help the Lismore team restore their Clubhouse.
The funds are needed to repair infrastructure such as pipes and toilets that were damaged when flood waters reached a record level of over 14 meters in February 2022. Lismore, located on a floodplain in Northern NSW, is now part of an independent inquiry due to be delivered soon.
In the late February floods, parts of Lismore that had never seen flooding before were quickly inundated, affecting more that 30,000 people in the area. The Local Council was reportedly told by the NSW Government that concerns were premature three days before the devastating event.
On Friday night, the Nathan Davis Beard Shaving & Mullet Crew shaved their beards and gave themselves mullets and raised over $1000 to contribute to the fund. So far, 19 donations have raised over $3,000 for the Lismore group.
Donations are being received from the wider sporting community, including coaches, players, and parents. One parent of a child who played at Lismore grounds gave a lovely message with his generous donation: “Wonderful people club and ground”.
Lismore Junior Rugby Club has teams for Under 6’s to Under 17’s. The group play regularly at Lismore Rugby Grounds on Friday nights. Their club is associated with the senior club and provides a pathway to the senior grade.
The Mosman Junior Rugby Club U12’s will travel to the Lismore region for their annual CUDAS tour. Fans can follow the MJRC CUDAS tour on instagram at instagram.com/cudatour or donate to support the Lismore Junior Rugby Club at https://mycau.se/lismore-junior-rugby-clubhouse.
