PRESS RELEASE: The band-aid for being overweight is NOT ‘being fit’.

Sydney, NSW – Monique Etkind, CEO and founder of ME for Me and ME Nutrition has been “in the trenches” of this “battle” for nearly 20 years. The landscape of health and wellness and the advances in medical interventions have been far reaching. However, the issue of weight related health challenges, either physical or psychological, continue to be at the center of many of our lives.
It is, in fact, possible to be overweight or even obese and still be healthy, as long as you’re physically active and eat a balanced diet. On the other hand, someone who appears thin or even underweight can be unhealthy if they don’t practice healthy habits such as exercising or getting sufficient nutrients.
So, when it comes to “Fat and Fit,” it’s important to focus on overall health habits rather than just body weight or body fat percentage.
Monique’s approach to weight loss and weight management answers where questions:
Do you nourish yourself properly to support the function of your body today? Is it adequate for you in the future?
Do you (actually) know how to fuel your body?
Are you eating what you like? Not what works for other people or groups.
Monique Etkind (BSc (Nutrition) HONS Dietetics, Sydney University): “We live in a fat and fit society. Gyms are packed to capacity, but we still have an obese population. People need to realise 80 percent of weight management is about what you eat and only 20 percent exercise. Exercise is essential for heart, blood sugars and mental health but to optimise your health and achieve weight goals you need to modify what you consume. It’s time for people to take off their blindfolds and acknowledge that feeling good after a morning run does not fix the internal problems – it’s a temporary solution to a much bigger problem. Exercise alone will not be successful at achieving health goals. People need an individualised eating plan, so they have a clear understanding of what they need to consume to be at their ideal weight. Their healthiest self.”
