From Part-Time Cleaner to Business Tycoon: George Stamas’s Inspiring Journey to Success and Philanthropy

SYDNEY, Australia – This week marks the 36th anniversary of George Stamas’s humble beginnings as a part-time cleaner. Today, he stands as a prominent member of Australian society, having transformed his life from a cleaner to a visionary leader, business tycoon, and philanthropist.

George’s journey to success was far from easy. In the early days, he single-handedly managed the accounting, client sales, and receptionist duties for his cleaning company. But his determination, hard work, and unwavering belief in his abilities propelled him forward.

Through his relentless dedication, George climbed the ranks within his own company, eventually becoming the owner and managing director of GJK Facility Services in 1987. Under his leadership, the company experienced exponential growth, expanding its operations across Australia and New Zealand. Today, GJK Facility Services is one of the largest privately-owned facility cleaning companies in Australia, employing over 3000 people.

George’s entrepreneurial prowess and exceptional leadership skills have garnered recognition and accolades. In 2016, he was nominated for the prestigious EY Entrepreneur of the Year award, a testament to his innovative business strategies and impact on the industry.

But George’s achievements extend beyond the business realm. He has made significant contributions to the community and has been actively involved in various philanthropic endeavors. Notably, George led a groundbreaking joint venture between the Victorian State Government (Office of Housing) and the Brotherhood of St Lawrence, providing employment opportunities to long-term unemployed public housing tenants in Melbourne’s inner suburbs. This initiative earned him the esteemed H. Bruce Russell Global Innovators Award for Community Redevelopment, presented at Harvard University.

George’s commitment to making a positive impact is evident through his support of numerous charitable organizations. He has championed causes such as breast cancer awareness, supporting women and families through the Lighthouse Foundation, and empowering children through the Kids Cancer Project and Empowering Women in need through the Hunger Project. His dedication to philanthropy has earned him a reputation as a compassionate and socially responsible leader.
Georges executive staff roll their sleeves up and volunteer to help various charity’s following in his footsteps too.

In 2020 During lockdowns George Stamas arranged for The island of Ikaria Greece in The blue zone to have emergency food parcels delivered to the elderly and underprivileged locked away in the mountains . He also arranged medical emergency masks sanitisers and oxygen to kalymnos hospital another island in Greece .
In addition to his business and philanthropic endeavours, George actively serves on various boards and committees, including GJK Indigenous Solutions, AustralianSuper, Life Member Facility Management Association of Australia (FMA), and the Building Services Contractors Association of Australia (BSCAA). His involvement in these esteemed organizations showcases his commitment to ethical business practices and the advancement of the facility management industry.
