While the concept of Dry January has previously been embraced more in the northern hemisphere, coinciding with the cold and dark winter months, we are seeing more and more Australians jumping on the Dry January bandwagon and reaping many of the benefits of doing so. Grey Area Drinking Coach Sarah Rusbatch, supports individuals all over the globe to change their relationship with alcohol and finds January to be her busiest month. “Most people want to start the year feeling their best and for many, that means ditching the booze, especially if the festive season has been busy” she says. “While the summer months can be harder to take that break, those that do truly benefit in many ways.”
So what are the benefits of taking a month off alcohol?
A University of Sussex looked at participants who completed Dry January and found interesting results.

87% of participants had a sense of achievement;
80% felt more in control of their drinking
84% saved money
72% slept better
