HEADLINE: Leading road safety technology provider continues its national expansion

One of Australia’s leading road safety and vehicle security technology providers, Affordable Interlock Systems (AIS) is continuing its national expansion as it adds Western Australia to the list of states it operates in.

This move into Western Australia follows its success in consolidating its footprint in the New South Wales and Queensland markets with growth driven by continuing demand for its core offering of alcohol interlock devices, a technology crucial to the prevention of drink-driving either in a personal or work capacity.

AIS distributes its range of innovative and life-saving products to auto-electrical service centres across the country via its partnership with UltraTune, Bridgestone, Autospark, along with many independently operated providers due to its range of government accredited products and customisable applications covering both industry and personal requirements.

For AIS founder Ron Mulder, this growth marks the culmination of five years of investing in system development and cutting-edge technology to become one of the category leaders in this space through its holistic customer service offering.

“I am a passionate advocate for road safety and AIS presents an opportunity for me to make a positive impact within the Australian community by providing the practical tools to reduce the likelihood of drinking and driving,” said Mr Mulder.

“AIS is at the forefront of this space using data storage, dual sensing technology and anti-circumvention measures to provide business owners, jurisdictions or law enforcement the ability to verify if drivers have been compliant. Our cutting edge product combined with ease of use for auto-electricians who install these into vehicles has made the AIS brand a recognised leader in the road safety space in Australia.”

Since its founding in 2019, AIS has achieved significant growth with its range of lifesaving, innovative products and program services recognised as compliant by state governments across the country seeking to reduce the national road toll by preventing drivers from getting behind the wheel under the influence – risking the lives of others as well as their own.

Alcohol interlock systems were first introduced into the United States in the early 1980s due to concerns over alcohol related road fatalities. They entered the Australian market in the late 1990s with Victoria being the first state jurisdiction to implement alcohol interlock programs in 2002, targeting repeat and high-range offenders.

They work by requiring drivers to undertake and successfully pass a breath test before their vehicle can be started, with any detection of alcohol above an approved amount immobilising the vehicle.

In 2025 alcohol interlock systems are now seen as an integral element of the national response to drink-driving and are part of each state and Territory’s road safety laws.

They also serve a vital part in protecting the community with many businesses involved in transport and heavy machinery usage requiring drivers to use them before turning their vehicle on.

Alcohol interlock systems are now an integral part of Australian road safety laws, particularly for drink-driving offenders.

According to Ron, his goal is to see AIS at the forefront of driving road safety standards and driver compliance measures within Australia.

“We are fielding enquiries every single day from businesses and auto-electrical service providers across the country due to our products providing a turnkey solution for both employers and the legal system to provide a preventative barrier to drink drivers,” Mr Mulder said.

“As a business we are committed to improving road safety and we look forward to continuing to play our part in making our communities safer against the dangers of driving under the influence.”
