Perth WA Bridges Light Up in Celebration of Australian Dance Week 2025 Sparking Joy Across the Nation
Perth, 28 April 2025

This year, Ausdance WA is lighting up the city—literally. In a stunning visual tribute to dance, key Main Roads landmarks across Perth, including Matagarup Bridge, Sky Ribbon and Joondalup Drive Bridge, will be illuminated in flashing red and white on Tuesday 29 April for International Dance Day—the global celebration that kicks off Australian Dance Week each year.

These vibrant colours, the signature hues of the national Ausdance network, symbolise activity, strength and passion—qualities at the heart of every dancer’s journey. The pulsing lights will echo the beat of movement and music seen and felt city-wide. On the eve of International Dance Day, Ausdance QLD will mirror the celebration in Brisbane, lighting up the iconic Storey Bridge in shared solidarity.

From 29 April to 4 May 2025, Australia will move to the rhythm of celebration as Australian Dance Week returns to spotlight the incredible diversity and vibrancy of dance across the country.

An initiative that brings together dancers, communities and audiences of all ages, cultures and abilities, Australian Dance Week celebrates dance of all styles and levels—from professional companies and independent artists to schools, studios and community groups.

In WA, Co3 Contemporary Dance Australia are presenting IN.CLASS – a series of classes for the community at the Liberty Theatre in Barrack St, Perth from 28 Apr – 15 May. Classes are led by Co3 Company Dancers and Teaching Artists in a range of styles including Contemporary, House, Hip Hop, Ballet, Fighting Monkey, First Nations & Contemporary fusion and Yoga sessions. Three classes each evening across 3 weeks. Co3’s work can be seen on the screens at Yagan Square Tower, Northbridge Piazza and Forrest Chase during Australian Dance Week.

This week Co3 will be teaching into 5 of the 11 schools booked for Term 2, to deliver our CONNECT25 Program this week during National Dance Week across metro and outer metropolitan Boorloo.

“In previous years, Ausdance WA have presented public dance performances, dance films and interactive events in the City of Perth as well as inviting new participants to Come and Try dance at classes in the CBD. This year, we are delighted that Co3 have initiated their IN.CLASS series during Australian Dance Week, offering new participants the opportunity to experience the physical, mental, emotional and social benefits that dance can offer,” says Executive Director of Ausdance WA, Amy Wiseman.

“We also recognise the wide variety of dance activity happening across our vast state year-round in studios, schools, communities, workshops, competitions and companies. Over 573,000 adults and 583,900 children dance at least once a week in Australia*. Australian Dance Week is a chance to honour and recognise the work of our incredible teachers, and to celebrate dance as a vital, living art form. Through recent consultation, it is clear that advocacy, visibility, and a voice for the dance sector are vital to building capacity. Lighting these bridges isn’t just symbolic—it’s an opportunity to raise the profile of dance and celebrate its global importance.”

Ausdance ACT has a range of programmed events in celebration of Australian Dance Week including performances, workshops and activities for all ages with a range of free classes and opportunities.

Ausdance WA is a not-for-profit organisation and the peak body for dance in Western Australia, working within a national network to support, connect, and advocate for the dance community.

Dance lovers, performers, educators and audiences across the state are encouraged to take part in Australian Dance Week events locally and share in the power of movement.

Let’s light up Australia with dance!
