PRESS RELEASE: Flying Families: Generations Come Together at the 2025 Indoor Skydiving Championships

Intergenerational flyers take centre stage at the Australian Indoor Skydiving Championships as Olympic momentum builds.
Sydney, Australia: Indoor skydiving may seem like an individual sport, but at this year’s Australian Indoor Skydiving Championships, it’s all in the family.
Taking place from 8th–10th August at iFLY Downunder in Penrith, the 2025 Championships will see over 150 athletes compete across five exciting disciplines. Among them are some of Australia’s most passionate flying families, showing that the tunnel is more than just a place to train. It’s where lifelong memories (and rivalries) are made.
Standout competing family stories include:
• John King and kids Lucas & Eva from the Sutherland Shire. All competing in Formation and Vertical Formation events.
• Cairo and Xavie Golsby-Smith, Northern Beaches locals who watched their dad compete at the first Championships in 2015. Now back to fly in their own right.
• Lucas and Leo, junior ambassadors from Illawong, will go head-to-head in a friendly tunnel showdown.
• Carissa and Lachlan, a Penrith-based brother-sister duo competing in 2-way VFS, with proud mum Dianne also supporting as a local business sponsor.
“These Championships are about more than medals, they’re about connection,” said Matt Boag, Sports Development Manager at iFLY. “We’ve watched kids grow up around the tunnel, train with their parents, and become champions in their own right. It’s sport, family and community all rolled into one.”
With free public entry and a global livestream expected to reach over 500,000 viewers, the event continues to build momentum not just as a major sporting moment, but as part of the wider push for indoor skydiving to be recognised as an Olympic discipline.
