How Modern Technology Can Help Create a Safer Environment in Childcare?
For Immediate Release

The recent Rapid Child Safety Review in Victoria has raised serious questions about how childcare centres can better protect children.
The findings highlight a critical point: relying on human checks and trust alone is not enough. Stronger systems, greater transparency, and modern technology are essential to ensuring child safety in today’s world.
Happy Sprouts Early Learning, One of Melbourne’s largest family-owned and Operated childcare providers, says it has already implemented many of the safeguards being recommended, using technology to create safer, more accountable environments for children and families.
“Parents should never have to rely on trust alone when it comes to child safety,” said Shan Jayasekara, Founder of Happy Sprouts Early Learning. “That’s where technology makes the difference. By using tools like CCTV monitoring, secure digital systems, and strict visitor screening, we create an environment where safety is visible, trackable, and enforced every day.”
Technology in Action at Happy Sprouts
CCTV Oversight: Every indoor and outdoor area is covered with more than 70 cameras, ensuring visibility and transparency across the centre.
Safe Technology Use: Staff use only centre-issued devices connected to a secure, monitored network. Personal mobile phones are not permitted during work hours, ensuring complete focus on children.
Visitor Verification: Every visitor, from volunteers to tradespeople, must present a valid Working With Children Check before entering the centre.
Built for Supervision: Rooms are designed with glass windows and doors, supported by supervision plans for each space, removing blind spots.
Reporting and Accountability: Staff are trained and empowered to escalate concerns immediately through structured reporting channels, with leadership present and engaged throughout the day.
Looking Ahead
Technology continues to evolve, and the childcare sector is beginning to embrace innovations such as AI-assisted monitoring, digital attendance tracking, and integrated compliance systems. These tools will help create stronger safeguards, improve oversight, and ensure families can have confidence in the safety of early learning environments.
Jayasekara added, “Technology is not about replacing people; it’s about protecting children in ways that people alone cannot. At Happy Sprouts, we believe it’s time for childcare safety to move beyond trust and into a new era of transparency and accountability.”
