PRESS RELEASE: Walcha to Host First-Ever Regional Latte Art Smackdown

Community Press Release
Walcha to Host First-Ever Regional Latte Art Smackdown
Coffee lovers, mark your calendars — on Tuesday 24 September 2025, Walcha Coffee will host the first-ever Regional Latte Art Smackdown, right here in Walcha.
Usually reserved for the big cities, this exciting event will bring baristas and coffee fans from across the New England and beyond together for a night of competition, community, and fun.
The idea was sparked when Cameron Hayton of Walcha Coffee chatted with Caleb Holstein from Alternative Dairy Co. at the Golden Bean Competition. From there, the idea grew — with strong support from sponsors Alternative Dairy Co., Pentair, ECM Coffee Machines, List + Beisler, and The Alternative Root in Uralla.
The event will feature:
$1,000 First Prize for the main smackdown winner, plus other cash prizes.
Cupping session with new coffees from List + Beisler.
Smoked Meat Dinner available on the night (pre-booking required).
Discounted local accommodation to encourage visitors to stay and explore Walcha.
And it’s not just for the grown-ups. There’s also a Junior Latte Art Competition (15 & under) with prize money to inspire young baristas to have a go. “If we’re going to raise up the next generation of workers, we need to show them coffee can be a career, not just pocket money while you’re at school,” said Hayton.
Tickets and competitor entries are available now through Eventbrite.
