Brisbane Twins Chasing Baseball Dream at Legendary New York Tournament
Marist College Ashgrove students selected for Cooperstown event as Queensland Dolphins become the only Australian team competing
Brisbane, QLD — March 2026 — Brisbane identical twins Axel and Ari Holmstrom, students at Marist College Ashgrove, are set to take their baseball journey to the international stage after being selected to compete in a prestigious youth tournament in New York.
The 12-year-old twins will travel with the Queensland Dolphins, who will be the only Australian team competing at the renowned Cooperstown tournament, widely regarded as one of the most iconic destinations in world baseball.
Axel and Ari began playing baseball at age six with Pine Hills Lightning and have since progressed through Queensland’s development pathways, including involvement in the Brisbane Bandits All-Star Academy. Their selection for the international tour followed strong performances at the Queensland State Titles, where they attracted the attention of selectors.
Queensland Dolphins Head Coach Scott Brockie said the twins bring outstanding attitude and energy to the team.
“Axel and Ari are both very athletic and extremely coachable,” Brockie said.
“They listen to feedback and work hard to make adjustments in their game. They’re also great teammates who bring a lot of energy to the team. They are the type of individuals that every team needs.”
The twins’ introduction to baseball came unexpectedly after originally asking to try cricket.
“They initially asked me if they could play cricket,” said their mother, Fiona Holmstrom. “But the local team was already full, and then I came across baseball quite by chance. They took to it straight away and never looked back.”
Their father Michael Holmstrom, who played soccer professionally in his youth, understands the commitment required to pursue competitive sport and is proud to support the twins as they continue developing their passion for baseball.
The opportunity reflects the growing global profile of Australian baseball, highlighted by recent achievements such as Travis Bazzana becoming the No.1 pick in the MLB Draft and Australia’s strong performances at the World Baseball Classic.
The Queensland Dolphins are currently seeking corporate sponsors and community supporters to assist with the costs of the international tour. Sponsorship contributions will help cover travel, accommodation and tournament participation for the young athletes representing Australia in Cooperstown. Businesses interested in supporting the program are encouraged to contact the Queensland Dolphins Baseball Program directly.
