PRESS RELEASE: Fencing & Gate Centre Encourages NSW and ACT Pool Owners to Check Pool Barriers Ahead of Summer

Family-owned fence and gate manufacturer outlines key NSW pool barrier requirements as the swimming season begins.
MINCHINBURY, NSW, NOV. 3, 2026 — Fencing & Gate Centre, a family-owned fence and gate manufacturer operating since 1995, encourages pool owners across NSW and the ACT to check that their pool fences and gates comply with regulations and are working properly before the summer swimming season begins.
In NSW, all swimming pools must be registered on the NSW Swimming Pool Register, and penalties can apply to unregistered pools. Pool barriers must be at least 1.2 metres high, measured from outside the pool area, and gaps under or within the fence must be no more than 100 millimetres. Where a boundary fence forms part of the pool barrier, it must be at least 1.8 metres high. Pool gates must open outwards, away from the pool, and be self-closing and self-latching from any position, with latches positioned out of children’s reach, generally at least 1.5 metres above the ground. A CPR sign must also be displayed in the pool area.
Barriers that met the rules when installed can fall out of compliance over time. Common problems include gate hinges and latches that no longer close reliably, loose fixings, and pot plants, furniture or other climbable objects placed against the fence. Pool owners can check their barriers using the self-assessment checklists on the NSW Swimming Pool Register website, and regularly lubricating hinges and latches and replacing worn springs can help keep self-closing gates working properly.
Fencing & Gate Centre manufactures and supplies pool fencing and pool and garden gates, along with a wider range of Australian-made fencing and gates, including Colorbond, horizontal slat, tubular, security, picket and custom designs. Its steel and aluminium products are made in-house at its Minchinbury head office, which also offers powder coating using Dulux powders and in-house design and engineering, including CAD drawings for fences and gates.
The company provides supply and installation across the Sydney metropolitan area and can refer customers outside Sydney to recommended installers. For owners who prefer to install their own fencing, it offers supply-only quotes, a measuring guide and DIY installation videos. No-obligation quotes are available, and orders can be delivered across NSW or collected in store.
Fencing & Gate Centre has branches in Minchinbury, Moruya, South Bathurst and Queanbeyan, which serves Canberra and the surrounding region.
