PRESS RELEASE: $120M North Star Medical Centre of Excellence Project to Establish Hub of Medical Innovation and Research
Gold Coast, QLD – The Gold Coast is set to further cement its reputation as a centre of medical excellence with the launch of the North Star Medical Centre of Excellence project, a $120M development by Trilogy Pty Ltd. This state-of-the-art 10-level medical building, located within the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct, will be home to the Gold Coast Transitional Care Centre (GCTCC), enhancing the precinct’s role as a hub for innovation and research.
The North Star Medical Centre of Excellence will join esteemed research centres like the Institute for Glycomics, Menzies Health Institute Queensland, and the Cities Research Institute, further solidifying the GCHKP’s status as a leading destination for medical advancements. The North Star Medical Centre of Excellence building will significantly boost medical and health research capabilities in the region, fostering a collaborative environment where cutting-edge healthcare solutions can be developed.
The North Star Medical Centre of Excellence development is an interconnected, environmentally friendly building strategically positioned at the heart of Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct. This location will facilitate scientific research and enable the translation of that research into life-saving drugs and devices, creating job opportunities and economic growth on the Gold Coast.
As the foundation tenant, the GCTCC in partnership with a major hotel, will provide accommodation facilities comprising 80 to 120 beds that can be utilised as out-of-hospital overnight beds, including for transitional care as well as emergency accommodation for locum and emergency health professionals. This addition will go a long way to support temporary healthcare needs and improve patient care outcomes.
In contrast to the recent announcement of a development application to build close to 900 build-to-rent homes in the Gold Coast’s Health and Knowledge Precinct, the North Star Medical Centre of Excellence focuses on providing short-term, interim care and emergency accommodation. This approach ensures that immediate and critical needs are met, offering flexible, temporary housing options that complement the more permanent facilities proposed for the precinct.
Dr. Alan Parnham, project lead for the North Star Medical Centre of Excellence and Chair of the GCTCC Board, is a driving force behind this transformative project. With over two decades of healthcare expertise and a longstanding commitment to investing in medical infrastructure on the Gold Coast, Dr. Parnham is dedicated to advancing medical research and improving patient care in the region. His leadership and vision are instrumental in bringing the North Star Medical Centre of Excellence to life.
