HEADLINE: Aegis Sales & Service: A Three-Generation Australian Family Business Driving National Safety Innovation
Brisbane, Queensland – Aegis Sales & Service, one of Australia’s leading safety solutions providers, has unveiled its strategic vision for continued national growth, under the leadership of newly appointed General Manager Kimberley Nunn.
Ms Nunn, whose grandparents founded the business originally known as Robleen Distributors Pty Ltd, is now leading the business into a new era as it seeks to build on its reputation as an industry leader in the delivery of safety solutions.
For Ms Nunn, her focus will be to cement its leadership role in the delivery of safety solutions for Australian businesses and capitalise on the opportunities presented by the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“Stepping into this leadership role is a profound responsibility, as I am not just managing a company; I am stewarding a legacy that began with my grandparents at Robleen Distributors,” said Ms Nunn.
“From their early days supplying personal protective equipment (PPE) – like safety glasses and gloves – to my father and uncle pioneering complex height safety and gas detection systems – our evolution mirrors the changing face of Australian industry and the increased focus on worker safety. My goal as General Manager is to build our reputation as a national leader, in workplace safety solutions across multiple industry verticals, and having our Brisbane headquartered business front and centre in safety planning for the 2032 Olympics.”
Established in June 1984 by Robert and Eileen Colhoun, Aegis Sales & Service has evolved from a local family-owned operation in Brisbane, into a nationwide leader in safety products, technical instrumentation, and specialised maintenance services.
Aegis’ mission – “looking after your safety” – drives every part of the business, from compliance and product supply to end-to-end solution delivery.
A core focus for the company is education: ensuring that customers not only receive the right equipment and systems, but also understand how to use them safely and effectively.
Over time, the family identified emerging needs in specialised safety fields.
Kimberley’s father pioneered the company’s move into engineered height-safety solutions, introducing world-class systems such as Latchways to the Australian market.
Her uncle expanded the family’s capabilities even further, bringing deep expertise in gas detection through the establishment of TechInspect.
Recognising the strength and shared customer base across both businesses, the family unified operations to form Aegis Safety; later rebranded to Aegis Sales & Service to better reflect its broadened offering and commitment to whole-of-business safety solutions.
The company also strengthened its market position with the acquisition of Procon IT, an instrumentation business previously holding exclusive product rights.
According to Ms Nunn, it is this ability to deliver cutting-edge safety solutions at scale, while still maintaining a high level of customer care that is one of the things she is most passionate and proud about when it comes to the business.
“We have the agility and personal care of a family business, but with the capacity to service major Tier One partners like Santos, Qantas, Brisbane City Council, Aldi, the Queensland Government, University of Queensland and Origin Energy -It is the best of both worlds,” Ms Nunn said.
“Not only are we a supplier of choice for much of the oil and gas industry in terms of sensor and instrumentation solutions, we are dealing with cutting-edge technology like gamma sensors – used by security services to detect radiation – which demonstrates our position at the cutting-edge of innovation. I am excited about the next 36 months as we continue to grow our company into a byword for safety, as this is the ultimate testament to how far this family business has come.”
As the company continues its transition from a traditional family operation to a highly professionalised national business, Aegis remains committed to its founding values: keeping workers safe, delivering excellence in service, and providing trusted expertise to organisations of every size.
