PRESS RELEASE: Blind Sydneysiders invited to try surfing with blind surfer Matt Formston at Manly Beach

Matt Formston has teamed up with Manly Surf School to lead a blind and low-vision surf lesson at Manly Beach on Wednesday, 2 November 2022. Accessible tour operator Cocky Guides will be on hand to support participants travelling on Sydney Ferries from Circular Quay to Manly.

Cocky Guides Founder James (Buck) McFarlane says, “This will be the second time we have worked with Matt and volunteered our support to ensure blind, and low-vision Australians can experience the thrill of surfing in a safe and supportive environment.”

Are you thinking of joining? You’ll be pleased to know that Manly Surf School provides all equipment, including board and wetsuits. All you’ll need to bring is a swimsuit, towel, and clothes suited to the weather. Strictly limited spaces are available for this free event!

Buck says, “Our travellers that have participated in past surf lessons with Matt appreciate the lived experience Matt shares about his learn-to-surf journey with low vision, providing knowledge that builds confidence in the ocean quickly. ”
