PRESS RELEASE: CENTRAL COAST TEENAGER TAKES OUT 3RD ROUND OF AUSTRALIAN KARTING CHAMPIONSHIPS

17 year old school student Harrison Mitchell has won his first ever national Australian Karting Championship round in the X30 class in Newcastle over the weekend. It was an emotional win and dream come true by the kid from the Coast taking home the chequered flag and finally stepping up to the illustrious podium.

With only months having a driving licence, the X30 class is one of the fastest and most competitive classes in the championship which Harri has competed in for just over a year. The weekend saw over 370 competitors fighting it out for only 8 first place trophies. The year 12 student from St Edwards Christian Brothers had been working hard leading up to the 3rd round, and it all paid off with a well thought through tyre strategy and pace all weekend, qualifying P3, winning a heat and placing 2nd and two 4th ‘s to have a 2nd row position in the final. Mitchell drove a solid and consistent race seeing him cross the finish line as number one with a 1.3 sec gap on his home ground.

The popular driver had the loudest roar from the crowd as he crossed the finish line with friends, family and team mates cheering on his very first podium and win. It was also one of the youngest podiums of this class, with all three spots going to competitors under the age of 17.

Harri is now setting his sights on the championship, with the 4th round in Ipswich, Queensland July 14 – 16, and finale in Melbourne’s Todd Road 25 – 27 August.
