PRESS RELEASE: ClearScore launches free product Protect for dark web monitoring.

For immediate release – 23rd November 2021

Key Points:
ClearScore will launch a free new product called Protect https://www.clearscore.com/au/protect to combat the data breach crisis.
ClearScore expects 50% of Australians will have some of their private usernames and passwords breached and available to criminals on the dark web.
Protect launch coincides with the government initiative Scams Awareness Week 2021.
According to the Australian Institute of Criminology, 1 in 4 Australians will experience identity theft in their lifetime.
Protect will empower ClearScore with free dark web monitoring, for all our users, for free and provide security tips to help them protect themselves from identity theft.

ClearScore is excited to announce the launch of Protect, a free feature that provides its Australian users with the best protection against identity theft.

The launch follows ClearScore’s recent announcement of reaching 500,000 Australian users, an impressive milestone when considering their entrance into the market at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic last year.

ClearScore has teamed up with cyber security experts who monitor the dark web for criminal activity and search for stolen data such as usernames and passwords. They are collecting more and more information every day – currently, their secure database has over 41 billion data points in it.

If Protect does find a match to a customer’s account, ClearScore will then send an email to alert them alongside security tips and recommended products. Consumers will also be able to find the Protect feature within their ClearScore account.

ClearScore Australia’s Managing Director, Stephen Smyth, expressed his enthusiasm for the Protect launch, stating: “The team has worked so hard to get this into the market and I can’t wait for you to try it.”

“Our users can really benefit from this new feature which is free, forever.”

The data breach crisis is prominent in Australia. According to the Australian Institute of Criminology, 1 in 4 Australians will experience identity theft during their lifetime. Furthermore, people over 45 are three times more likely to have their data breached than people under 25. Protect aims to fight back against this crisis, arming consumers with tools to check that their financial data is secure.

Protect was recently launched for ClearScore’s United Kingdom users and already 3.3 million users have used it to check if their usernames and passwords have been stolen and put on the dark web.

“We’re extremely proud that giving users Protect in the UK has empowered them to make up to 270,000 actions per month to change passwords and other actions to prevent identity fraud.”

To ensure complete client data protection, ClearScore will scan the dark web privately and securely for their consumers every three months. ClearScore expects that 50% of its Australian user base will find some form of a data breach.

“I hope we don’t find any of your information on the dark web, but if we do, we will help you take the right steps to protect your identity”, said Mr. Smyth.

ClearScore continues to separate itself from the Australian market.

Mr. Smyth commented on this, stating that: “many of the identity protection products in the market include both credit report access, dark web monitoring and dedicated advice on fraud and security. They often charge over $120 a year for these services. I am delighted that we are now going to offer all our users free dark web monitoring and dedicated advice on how to protect your identity”.
