PRESS RELEASE: Coalcliff Surf Life Saving Club to Unveil Upgraded Kitchen Thanks to NSW Government Support

Coalcliff Surf Life Saving Club (Coalcliff SLSC) is proud to announce the completion of its newly refurbished clubhouse kitchen, made possible through a generous infrastructure grant from the NSW Office of Sport under the NSW Government’s Surf Club Facility Program.

The official unveiling will take place on Sunday, 3 August 2025, at noon, as part of Coalcliff SLSC’s Annual General Meeting at the clubhouse. All members, residents, and community supporters are warmly invited to attend.

The NSW Government’s Surf Club Facility Program is designed to help surf clubs across the state enhance their facilities, encourage greater participation in Surf Life Saving, improve community access, and promote safety. With this vital support, Coalcliff SLSC plans to increase training opportunities, expand community education programs, and run fundraising events that contribute to the ongoing sustainability and development of the club.

James McFarlane, President of Coalcliff SLSC, stated that the $54,000 kitchen upgrade was delivered on budget, thanks to the generous grant and strong local collaboration.

“This project would not have been possible without the support of the NSW Office of Sport, the City of Wollongong Sport & Recreation Property Team, and our local representatives, Maryanne Stuart MP, and her predecessor Lee Evans. I’d also like to sincerely thank club member Jonathon Newman and the fantastic local trades who brought this project to life — M2R Plumbing, Robert Keeley All Style Ceramics, Andrew Dove Electrical, and VK Joinery. Their skill and dedication have helped deliver an outcome the whole community can enjoy.”

About Coalcliff Surf Life Saving Club

Coalcliff Surf Life Saving Club, affectionately known as ‘The Social Club,’ is the second most northerly surf club in the Illawarra. It is home to a vibrant community of volunteer surf lifesavers who patrol the picturesque ‘Place in the Sun’ throughout the summer. The club boasts a strong Nippers program, Ocean Swim Club, and hosts popular gigs and events year-round, including The Bombie at Coledale RSL.
