PRESS RELEASE: DISGRACEFUL – a one-woman show about a lifetime of behaving badly Melbourne Fringe Festival 2021

EMBARGO RELEASE 26 Aug 2021

Written, produced and performed by Lucy Best, Disgraceful is a hilarious study of her lifelong history of being shamelessly disgraceful. Using stand up, cabaret and sketch comedy, Lucy Best shares tales of a misspent youth, an ill-mannered childhood and an evident refusal to go quietly into middle age.

Any hopes that Lucy’s disgracefulness is on par with other mortals are dashed as the epic scale of her stories reach Olympian levels. It is clear Lucy Best is incorrigible—her disgraceful past escapades point to the likelihood of an even more disgraceful future.

Lucy Best is a Melbourne-based British comedian, director, actor, writer and musician. Lucy Best hit the comedy scene in 2017, winning George’s Mega Comedy Competition (MICF 2018) and was a RAW comedy state finalist in 2019. She has performed around Australia’s festival circuit, as well as overseas. Recent credits include Unbridled (Butterfly Club 2021); Motherfu(t (StoryVille, for MICF 2020); and Sass and Chide, a split show on Zoom (Melbourne Fringe 2020). She is the producer and presenter of Lucy Best’s Queer Comedy, a comedy variety night performed at venues including Harehole Melbourne. The event has introduced dozens of new comic talents to the stage.

Disgraceful is Lucy’s first solo show and the production is mentored by award-winning cabaret star, Tash York. Lucy received production advice from Harehole Melbourne through its Generation program.

“Tastefully outrageous” – Arts Hub
“Delightfully funny, dark and witty.” – Justine Sless (MA), writer, comedian, creative director, researcher
