PRESS RELEASE: Doctor and Indie Folk Storyteller Patrick Lawrence Pens New EP to Process Burnout in Medicine
Brisbane, Australia – January 17th, 2024 –
“Nostalgic for Now” is a six-song collection that is very personal for doctor and indie folk storyteller Patrick Lawrence. This EP encapsulates six chapters of his life, encompassing burnout, self-realization, career choices, loss, happiness, and enjoying the moment. And he really pours every inch of himself into this soul-grabbing collection that was written from a place of vulnerability, tenderness, and strength. The raw emotions in his sweet-sounding voice glide gently over the ear-catching productions appealing to fans of indie folk music.
“Toaster Song” kicks things off with Lawrence’s jangly guitar and vivid storytelling, expressing “I don’t know where I’m going, but I hope once I get there, I’ll know”. “Forever Home”, written for his wedding, is a soul-grabbing ballad capturing the feeling of falling deeply in love with someone. In “Half-Life”, Lawrence delves into personal struggles with stress and burnout in his medical carrer. “An Empty Room” poignantly addresses the sorrow of losing a child to miscarriage, offering solace to those with similar experiences. Shifting gears, “Joy in the Journey” stands out as an upbeat, toe-tapping track about embracing the present. The EP concludes with “These Are the Good Old Days”, a nostalgic anthem that synthesises the themes of the EP and leaves listeners ready to experience the journey all over again.
Patrick Lawrence is an indie folk musician and doctor, weaving a unique and authentic narrative underpinned by his dual career. After releasing his debut EP in 2008, Patrick made the difficult decision to step back from music and focus on his medical studies. He has now returned to music to grapple with his life experiences such as finding meaning, dealing with burnout, practicing gratefulness and dealing with loss.
Patrick Lawrence’s distinctive sound is steeped in influences such as Gregory Alan Isakov, Donovan Woods, Jordy Searcy and John Mayer. In an era where authenticity often feels elusive, Patrick Lawrence’s music provides a sense of warmth and familiarity.
“Nostalgic for Now” will officially drop on January 17th, 2024, on all the popular streaming platforms.
