PRESS RELEASE: Driving simulator arrives in Bega to help locals get road ready

People in the Bega Valley can now access FREE sessions on a driving simulator designed to help learner drivers develop their skills and confidence in a safe, controlled environment thanks to the Work Transit Alliance.
The simulators use the My Drive School program, which includes 24 modules covering basic vehicle control, intersections, merging, emergency braking, hazard perception, distraction, fatigue and impairment.
The driving simulator is being hosted by Bega Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the Bega Co-Work office in Bega until the end of October 2026. Participants will be able to book 30, 60 or 90 minute sessions and return for further practice if required. Free sessions can be booked at www.worktransitalliance.com.au.
The Work Transit Alliance is a collaboration between the Illawarra South Coast, Capital Region and Murray Riverina Local Jobs Programs. It’s working to develop practical, coordinated solutions to the transport barriers that prevent people across regional communities from accessing employment, training and education.
The Bega simulator is one of three being made available across southern New South Wales, with additional simulators located in Cooma and Wagga Wagga. The simulators will move across the three regions to provide greater access for local communities.
The initiative gives learners another way to practice important skills, become familiar with different driving situations and build confidence before getting behind the wheel of a vehicle.
Work Transit Alliance representative and Illawarra South Coast Local Jobs Program Job Coordinator Andrew Wales said access to a driver licence could make a significant difference to a person’s employment prospects.
“For many people living in regional communities, being able to drive is essential for getting to work, training or education,” Mr Wales said.
“The simulator gives learners an additional way to practice, build confidence and become more familiar with different driving situations in a safe environment.
“We know transport is one of the most persistent barriers preventing people from accessing employment opportunities in regional areas. Practical initiatives like this can help people take an important step towards greater independence and employment.”
The Local Jobs Program is an Australian Government initiative that brings together employers, employment services, training providers and community organisations to respond to local workforce needs and help people connect with jobs and training.
FREE driving simulator sessions will be available in Bega until the end of October 2026.
