PRESS RELEASE: Free Christmas shop Opens

In Byron Shire, Dennis Stevenson opens a Free Shop each year at Xmas and gives away thousands of new presents. Everyone is welcome and all presents are free.

Dennis’ first free shop was 2009 on the Gold Coast, with the last nine being in Ocean Shores. He borrows an empty shop or space and fills it with new gifts and gives them away.

Volunteers donate presents and do everything to help make sure no one in the Byron region has to go without at Christmas. People check their own homes or with neighbours or friends for new gifts hiding in cupboards, spare rooms, drawers or garages. Dennis asks anyone who can help to contact him on [email protected] to help with a 2-4 hour period in the free shop or to collect new presents in the community.

The shop will open 9am-6pm Mon 16 to Tue 24 Dec, (not Sun 22) in Ocean Shores Shopping centre, northern NSW. The Church hall beside K-Hub.

Many families can’t afford presents or even a Xmas meal. No one should go into debt to buy gifts. Dennis says “We’ll help everyone. Love is never meant to be conditional.”

Everything donated is appreciated. The only limit is that everything must be new. It’s a gift shop, not an op shop. Non-perishable foodstuffs are also a real help for families to enjoy a special Christmas meal. You can volunteer, bring new things in, or spread the word!

Dennis delights in helping people, without limitation or charge. Dennis says "Love is never conditional. We'll all live like this one day. I'm just getting in early to avoid the rush smile". 14 years ago (2008) Dennis opened his leased Brisbane house in Queensland and gave everything away.
